Princeton graduate student Wang Xiyue’s story is as unique as it is inspiring. After becoming a United States citizen at age 28, in 2016 Wang was arrested in Iran and held captive for 40 months for the sole crime of being an American citizen. Since his release and return to the United States in 2019, Wang has been vocal about his experience in Iran and his perspectives on U.S.-Iranian relations.
In his discussion with Princeton Tory Podcast host Billy Wade, Wang recounts his captivity and reflects on what he learned in Iran. The conversation evolves from Wang’s captivity to the significance of American identity and what U.S. Foreign policy should look like in the Middle East. The two also discuss issues in the academic field of international relations and the need for understanding the differences between the Iranian people and the Iranian Regime.
This podcast has the promise of being both intellectually stimulating and emotionally evocative.
