Greetings, Tory reader!
On behalf of the Tory staff, I am excited to welcome the class of 2020 to Princeton!
William F. Buckley, Jr. once said that liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views. It’s among the Tory’s most important goals to give a voice to these views.
Now that you’ve been here for a few weeks, you have likely participated in or watched political discussions over our current election, be it in your zee groups, in class, or in the dining hall. Over time, you may well find that debating with students you disagree with not only opens your eyes to new ideas, but also compels you to find more sound, convincing lines of argument to defend your beliefs. The Tory is here to help you do that, and I look forward to welcoming a new group of contributors (y’all!) to the magazine.
We have incentives for you to do so as well! Check out our freshman writing contest for a chance to both be published and win $100 for an original article on the topic of your choice! Submissions are accepted through November 7th by email to our editor-in-chief, Jay Sourbeer ().
I hope that you will consider helping us play a part in Princeton’s political dialogue by getting involved in our publication, through writing, editing, or helping with layout and web design. We welcome debate, and hope you will feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. To that end, I welcome your feedback in the form of letters; my contact information is below.
